Award Winning Author; Foreign Political Analyst; Newsweek MENA Editor; Contributing Editor of Vanity Fair

Janine di Giovanni is the Middle East Editor of Newsweek and a Pakis scholar at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. In 2016 she was awarded the Courage in Journalism Award for her distinguished work in war zones over the past 25 years, most recently in Syria. She has reported war conflict and its aftermath in the Middle East, The Balkans and Africa for over 25 years and has won nine awards and published seven books, the most recent “The Morning They Came for Us: Dispatches from Syria”.

Ms. di Giovanni is an International Security Fellow at the New America Foundation and an Associate Fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. She is a frequent moderator and leading analyst of foreign policy at global conferences and has worked for the World Economic Forum, The World Bank, the United Nations, Harvard, Princeton and the London School of Economics. She is a former adviser on the Syria conflict to the UNHCR and has advised on policy for EU and NATO. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

 Action on Armed Violence has named her one of the 100 most influential people in reducing armed conflict.  Ms. di Giovanni lives in Paris.
